We Built This City on Rock and Roll

Last updated: June 15, 2026

Pleased to meet you –
Hope you guess my name

Will you tell me what you saw,
and I’ll tell you what you missed
When the ocean met the sky
You missed when time and life shook hands
and said goodbye
When the Earth folded in on itself

I could feel the whole world
turn round underneath me

This ground is not the rock I thought it to be

If this world is turning too fast for your head
Just remember how bad times can roll instead
Guess I’ll have to search the space in my mind
For that stillness in time.

Rock of ages, rock of ages –
Still rollin’, keep a-rollin’

How does it feel?
To be without a home?
Like a complete unknown?
Like a rolling stone?

They follow the pattern of the wind, ya see –
‘Cause they got no place to be

I’m on a plain –
I can’t complain

‘Cause now I’m
Plain-sailing

Still-cruisin’
after all of these years

We are digging holes to China
Then we pray to our reflections
in the water when it rises

Sky of blue and sea of green,
In our yellow submarine

We all live in a yellow submarine

Time flies by in the yellow and green
Stick around and you’ll see what I mean…

Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah, they were all yellow

Or am I standing still?
Beneath the darkened sky
Or am I standing still?
With the scenery flying by

I held the pieces of my soul –
I was shattered,
and I wanted you to come and
make me whole

Throw in some assumptions, such as moonlight being nothing more than reflected sunlight, and a framework of scientific logic takes shape.

Is the nature of my game
