‘But the world itself is only a speck of dust.
And man is tiny — helpless!

Planet Earth, my home, my place
A capricious anomaly in the sea of space
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

Planet Earth, are you just
Floating by, a cloud of dust

All we are is dust in the wind

A minor globe, about to bust
A piece of metal bound to rust
Thus, we can begin to think of the immense universe in
which our green mantled earth is but a tiny speck whirling around our sun, one of the many stars that range throughout space-time.
Lawrence K. Frank
Nature and Human Nature: Man’s New Image of Himself

A speck of matter in a mindless void
A lonely spaceship, a large asteroid
While almost everyone is taught that the Earth is a sphere with all of us somehow glued to it by gravity, the reality of our circumstance did not really begin to sink in until the famous frame-filling Apollo photograph of the whole Earth—the one taken by the Apollo 17 astronauts on the last journey of humans to the Moon.

Cold as a rock without a hue –
Held together with a bit of glue –
Something tells me this isn’t true…

The things I’ve learned from a broken mirror –
How a face can change when a heart knows fear

Nothin’ comes from talkers but sound –
We can talk all we want to,
but the world still goes around and round

Feeling kinda tilted and I’m pouring out
the truth, just fading out these talkers
‘cause now all I want is you.

Is the truth really there?
Or is it right under our hair?
For all we know it’s been there all the time

The shit’s over their head,
but under their nose –
Not a star cause I’m a sun
when it comes to a flow –
Ya know?
